Hampshire Friendly Society Medallion
This white metal medallion was clearly issued as an advertising piece. In Victorian and earlier times, it was quite common for businesses to issue advertising tokens or medallions. These were often inexpensive to produce, and would be a very durable alternative to a business card.
This particular medallion appears to have been struck to advertise the formation of the formation of the Hampshire Friendly Society in 1825.
It is struck in white metal and weighs xx grams.

Obverse
A crowned rose on a background of a scroll, with the inscription:-
HAMPSHIRE FRIENDLY SOCIETY
FOUNDED A.D. 1825

Reverse
The Royal Coat of Arms, supported by a Lion and Unicorn, with the inscritpion:-
HIS MAJESTY THE KING
PATRON
WATCHMAKERS

Other Inscriptions
The garter surrounding the small raised centre shield is inscribed:-
HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

The scroll beneath the coat of arms inscribed:-
DIEU AT MON DROIT

Hampshire Friendly Society
We have not had time to research the Hampshire Friendly Society. It was undoubtedly proud of the fact that the king, George IV, had become their patron, and had issued this attractive medallion to advertise the fact. If anyone knows more about the society, we would appreciate hearing from you, so that we can share the information with others here.
