Victoria Old Head Coinage
There were three main obverse types of Queen Victoria plus the gothic type used only on the crowns and florins. The last of these is now generally known as the "Old or Widow Head". It was used from 1893 until the end of Victoria's reign in 1901.
For the first time the words "half crown" appear on a halfcrown, and this continued until the very last halfcrowns of 1967 and 1970. Previously it had obviously not been thought necessary.
