1926 Coin Sets

Seven Coins Issued
Not all values of coins are issued every year, it depends on demand, and in 1926 only seven of the eight normal circulating denominations were issued, namely halfcrown, shilling, sixpence, threepence, penny, halfpenny and farthing.

Third Coinage - Modified Effigy
1926 saw the move to 3rd coinage, using the modified effigy. 3rd coinage was still made of debased silver (500 parts per 1000), however there were many subtle differences on the modified effigy coinage. The differences included; the designers initials (BM) were moved nearer to the back of the neck, with no stops, the overall relief may have been slightly lower, the truncation of the neck was less pronounced, the colon stops were further apart, and the beading was much corser - and more like teeth. Although 1926 saw this change some of the coins minted still used the 2nd coinage design, please see the table below for which coins were minted in which coinage type.

No Official Coin Sets
Way back in 1926, the Royal Mint were not in the habit of issuing proof or uncirculated coin sets every year. Proof or specimen coin sets were only issued on special occasions such as coronations and jubilees. It was not until 1970 that they started to issue coin sets every year for sale to collectors.
