Reverse of 1974 English National Opera Medallion

1974 English National Opera Medallion
English National Opera (ENO), orignally called Sadler Wells Opera, (name changed in 1974) along with The Royal Opera are the two opera companies in London. The ENO was founded by Emma Conns in the last 19th Century. After her death, Conns left her opera company to her neice Lilian Baylis. It was Baylis who wanted to find a larger theatre to be able to accommodate both theatre and opera and so later bought and refurbished Sadler Wells theatre. The first theatre production took place on 6th January 1931 and an opera performance two weeks later.
When we tested the medallion for its precious metal content the reading came as 88.7 silver and 4.2 of gold at 1 carat. We would presume that the medallion is gold plated on .900 silver however it could quite possibly be sterling silver and our testing machine has not picked up the gold as gold plating. The price shown below is based on the medallion being .900 silver.

Buying & Selling
Buyers and sellers alike may be interested to note that gold medallions like these often trade at prices close to their intrinsic metal value. While this may not be what sellers wish to hear, it should delight potential buyers.
At the time of creating this page, we had a one of these medallions in stock, and would be happy to sell it for a modest premium over their intrinsic gold content, however as with many pages of our website, this page has a dual purpose, to sell our stock, and to provide information. If you have a similar medallion, which you would like to sell, we would be pleased to hear from you.
