1994 - 1995 Portuguese Prestige Proof Coin Sets
In 1994 - 1995, Portugal issued a prestige proof coin set, comprising 4 different designs in gold, platinum, palladium & silver for the Golden Age of Portuguese Discovery.
Each set contains four different coins, one each in gold, silver, platinum and palladium. The issue price of these sets was in excess of $2,000 US per set, and the issue quantity was surprisingly high, in our opinion, considering the high issue price. It appears to have been a very successful series, as all of the sets catalogue in excess of issue price, up to $2,700 per set, according to Krause.
The Portuguese platinum coins are shown on their own page.

The Golden Era of Portuguese Discoveries
The central theme of the prestige proof sets was the era when Portuguese navigators were leading the world in the discovery of new lands.
