1996 Turks & Caicos Islands Trains on Coins

The Railway Heritage Coin Collection
In 1996, The Turks and Caicos Islands issued a number of silver proof crowns and smaller coins featuring famous, iconic or notable trains (locomotives or railway engines). This page shows and lists a selection which we have seen.

Schizophrenic Coins
Whereas most Turks and Caicos Island coins are denominated as "Crowns", with one crown nominally eqal to one US dollar, these railway issues, and a few others, are denominated in "Dollars". Perhaps the Mint, Issuing House or engraver forgot which country they were being made in the name of. There were also a number of similar Railway Heritage coins made for the Marshall Islands, also dated 1996. In our oponion, it appears very likely that reverses prepared for the Marshall Islands were used for the Turks and Caicos Islands instead. This could have been accidental, or because of licensing or permissions.
A number of the "certificates" issued with these coins fails to mention which country they were issued by or for.

No Limits?
The certificates do not state any issue limits, and Krause omits any information about mintages. It would appear likely that this information may be known only to the mints, promoters, or not at all.
