Golden Wedding
In 1997, the British royal Mint co-ordinated and produced an international coin collection of 24 silver proof coins, mostly of crown size, to celebrate the Golden Wedding Anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip. The original Royal Mint Bulletin, issue 63, summer 1997, offers this collection for sale in 24 instalments, but strangely enough, or perhaps not, (this is the Royal Mint), fails to list the 24 countries or coins included. It also mentions that 22 of the coins are identical crown sized as shown in our table, and specifies two which are not, but of the sets we have seen, which often turn up as partial sets.
There would be three coins which are not crown sized, if we include the Guernsey £1 coin.
It took us some time before we acquired a complete collection, and were able to discover the exact 24 coins issued.
Originally, we missed out a coin and wrongly included the Guernsey pound, but have now managed to correct this error. We try to make the pages of our site a useful information and reference source, in addition to using it as our primary sales catalogue.
We cannot find an original complete collection price, but adding the instalments together makes a total of £859. It strikes us as rather strange marketing to fail to list all the countries, and not to offer a complete purchase price or show the total.
