Three Different Designs
In 1998, fifty pence coins were issued featuring three different designs in the same year.
In addition to this, there were also special collectors editions issued of each of the three designs, in different metals and finishes.

New Obverse Design - Fourth Portrait
All 1998 coins carried the new fourth portrait obverse design by Ian Rank-Broadley, FRBS, FSNAD, whose initials IRB appear under the head.

The 3 Designs
All three designs share the same common obverse, but the reverse designs differ.

Twin Pack
The twin pack contains one each of the Britannia design, and the EEC (EU) commemorative issue.
According to the packaging, the fifty pence has become the denomination traditionally chosen to celebrate significant events in European history, following on from the 1973 and dual-dated 1992-3 issues.
Both coins are superior quality uncirculated "specimens", and they are housed in an attractive and informative folder.

NHS Silver Proof
The NHS issue was produced in several variations, including a silver proof version, housed in a leatherette case.
Price £25 / $40
