Available In Two Versions
This year half sovereigns have been produced in two versions, an ordinary uncirculated "bullion" grade, and a special proof version for collectors.

Uncirculated Version
The Royal Mint has produced bullion, uncirculated, grade half sovereigns for the first time since 1982.
Half sovereigns are no longer produced every year. The last date which was made for circulation was 1926.
In 1982, bullion grade half sovereigns were again produced, and the Royal Mint have produced proof quality half sovereigns, for sale to collectors, in most years from 1980 onwards.
The 2000 issue are the first "ordinary" uncirculated half sovereigns to be issued for 18 years, and only the second to be produced for 74 years!
The mintage figure, at 250,000 is the lowest for any Uncirculated half sovereign for over 100 years. We confidently expect the 2000 issue to become a complete sell-out.

Proof Version
The Royal Mint has issued proof versions of half sovereigns for sale to collectors in most years from 1980. These have a superior, highly polished background, with the raised design in a frosted finish, in special presentation packaging. The proof version is housed in a clear plastic capsule within a red velvet box inside a matching velvet lined outer box.
