Golden Jubilee Design
For the Queen's Golden Jubilee, the 50th anniversary of her reign, the crown is being produced with a special commemorative design. In keeping with the designs of the 1953 coronation crown, and the 1977 silver jubilee crown, the queen is shown on horseback. This new equestrian portrait is the work of Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS, FSNAD.
In addition to the usual inscription, there appears "AMOR POPULI PRAESIDIUM REG" which translates loosely as "The Love Of The People Is The Queen's Protection". This inscription but with the word REGIS for king instead of REG for queen first appeared on gold angels of Charles I. We sincerely hope it proves more fortuitous and appropriate for our present monarch.
A superb portrait of the Queen in robes and diadem graces the reverse. Both designs are the work of Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS, FSNAD, the artist who created the Royal portrait approved for the circulating coins of the United Kingdom from 1998.
The guns boomed out across Hyde Park, and throughout the land the accession was declared of the youngest Monarch to succeed to the throne since 1837, when the 18-year-old Princess Victoria became Queen. Today, almost fifty years on, she is still performing the duties of monarchy, and her Golden Jubilee celebrations will be a tribute to a much loved and respected sovereign.
Gold Silver and Base Metal Versions
As from 1990, the five pound crowns have been produced in a number of different versions, and in three different metals. An ordinary uncirculated base metal version will be available from banks and post offices later in the year. A superior specimen version of this has been available from early January, in an attractive and informative folder. In previous years this has been priced at £9.95, and the same price applies this year.
A proof version of the above cupro-nickel coin will be available as part of the 2002 Proof Coin Sets.
The silver proof version is available now, officially priced at £34.50, but as usual we are offering it a a special pre-release price. The gold proof version is priced at £525 / $925 officially, our pre-release price is £495 / $850.
Prices & Availability
We are holding our pre-release prices for a short period, and will be valid while still shown on this page.

As in other recent years, we will be placing advance orders for all versions of the crown, except the ordinary uncirculated one. We are accepting advance orders, as usual, with price guarantee similar to that we have operated in previous years.
