Variations on a Design Theme
There are four different designs, all similar except that the central cameo features in turn the flags of, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
As usual, this coin will be available in a number of different versions, some of which we have available from stock as from early January 2002:-

• Ordinary circulation version, which should be available from banks and post offices during the year.
• Specimen version, issued in Royal Mint folder. This has a superior finish compared with the ordinary coins, so will be preferred by most collectors. the folders are also very attractive and informative, and made interesting and unusual gifts.
• Proof version issued in sets of four.
• Silver Proof version, with the outer part gold plated.
• Piedfort proof version, similar but made double weight, with a lower issue limit, and coloured details on the flag. Although the issue limit was lower than for the silver proof, more piedfort sets were sold, presumably reflected greater collector interest and demand for the coloured version.
• Gold proof version, made of two different shades of 22 carat gold.

Specimen Pack
This bright presentation folder features the four special coins commemorating the Commonwealth Games, to be held in Manchester in the summer, struck to Brilliant Uncirculated standard. The reverse of the coins, designed by Royal Mint engraver Matthew Bonaccorsi, represent the four constituent parts of the United Kingdom, with the central cameo featuring in turn the flags of, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The obverse bears Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of the Queen.

Although our prices are now higher than the Royal Mint's original issue prices this is due to the recent increase in the gold price. For 2008 the Royal Mint's Gold Proof £2 Coin is £450 which would make the 4 coin set approximately £1,800.

About 1,000 people every week read one or more of our pages about £2 coins. Hopefully most manage to find what they wanted.
