The Elizabeth I Anniversary Crown Presentation Folder
Struck to Brilliant Uncirculated quality, this commemorative crown features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth I created by silversmith Rod Kelly in celebration of the 450th anniversary of her accession. It is housed within an informative folder richly illustrated with images of the Tudor monarch. The folder also details the coinage of the Elizabethan era, together with a brief insight into one of the greatest and most influential reigns in British history.

The Elizabeth I Anniversary Crown
On 17 November 1558 the 25-year-old Elizabeth, the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, was proclaimed Queen of England. She became one of the best-loved and influential English monarchs, whose date of accession remained a national holiday for 200 years. To celebrate the 450th anniversary of her becoming Queen a £5 crown has been struck featuring on its reverse a portrait of Elizabeth by the silversmith Rod Kelly.
Inspired by the magnificent 'Armada' portrait of Elizabeth by George Gower, the Queen is crowned and set within a mandorla created by four decorative arches. A Tudor rose has been placed at each connecting point while the two side arches each contain a beautiful leaf pattern reminiscent of the carvings made by the Queen's loyal servant and friend, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. The year of her accession and the year of the anniversary are both shown in Roman numerals with the inscription ELIZABETH REGINA.

2008 Crown £5 for £5
Each year, both the Royal Mint, Westminster Collections, the so-called London Mint Office and others, offer a loss-leader of a £5 crown for £5, post free. This is to get you onto their mailing lists, and into their clutches, usually so they can market their more profitable items at you. Here at Chard, we don't believe in this type of aggressive marketing, and some years back, we stopped offering the ordinary circulation crowns because we received too may complaints about the quality of their finish, even though this is a factor which is beyond our control.
We noticed the Royal Mint's offer which is restricted to one coin per household

The Royal Mint has received approval to issue an historic new British coin on the occasion of The Queen's Diamond Wedding. The £5 coin will be available for one year only and is sure to be a real collector's item. As we are expecting unprecedented demand we are issuing a limit of one per household and have introduced a special application procedure to allow you to order your coin in advance. Don't miss your chance to be amongst the first to own one for no more than the face value of £5. The Queen's Diamond Wedding £5 coin will be sent direct from the Royal Mint in 2008, in time to celebrate The Queen's 80th birthday on 21st April.

Gold £5 Crowns
For current pricing on the gold proof versions of any of the Five Pound Crowns, from 1990 onwards, please use the £5 Gold Coins pages of our "Tax Free Gold" website.

British Platinum Piedfort Crowns
Starting in 2004, the Royal Mint has issued platinum piedfort proof crowns. These are naturally very expensive. We can usually supply them new to order if required, but we prefer to source lower priced ones from the secondary market. Please contact us if you are interested.

Platinum Bullion Coins
Platinum coins are subject to VAT in the UK, so we have not until recently offered new platinum bullion coins, however, we can now obtain and supply them to special order. If demand is sufficiently high, we will start to carry them in stock.
