2008 New Coin Designs Daily Telegraph One Pence
In a report about the forthcoming new UK coin designs, expected to be formally announced tomorrow, the 2nd April, thus neatly avoiding April Fool's Day, the Daily Telegraph says that all 2008 British coins will change their designs including the 'One Pence'. Looks like they are eceomomising on sub-editors at the DT.

One Penny - Two Pence!
OK, perhaps we are being slightly pedantic, but any journalist working at the Daily Telegraph, one of our last remaining quality newspapers, should be able to write in good English, and use the correct singular word penny. Also, newspapers used to have sub-editors, whose job included checking for spelling errors.
Here is the article:

Queen's coat of arms to herald new coins By Andrew Pierce
Last Updated: 1:45am BST 01/04/2008

The Queen's coat of arms is at the heart of the biggest changes to the British currency in 40 years which the Royal Mint will unveil tomorrow.
The Royal Mint will unveil new designs for all coin denominations
The new designs have been kept a secret
The designs for the reverse of the coins, from the one pence piece to the pound, have been a closely guarded secret.
But the Telegraph has learnt that the new pound coin features the traditional shield design from the Royal coat of arms.
The lower-denomination coins will feature close-up details of the shield which, when fitted together, show the shield as a whole.
The sovereign's coat of arms has evolved over many years and reflects the history of the monarchy and country.
"In the design the shield shows the Royal emblems of different parts of the United Kingdom: the three lions of England in the first and fourth quarters, the lion of Scotland in the second and the harp of Ireland in the third.
The designs were devised after a public competition which attracted more than 4,000 entries. The Queen and Prime Minister endorsed the choice. One royal source told The Daily Telegraph: "I think it is fair to say that we are quite satisfied with the new designs."
Buckingham Palace and Downing Street hope the use of the coat of arms will reassure traditionalists and supporters of the Union.

First
At least the Telegraph was not only on the scent, but also the first to comment. The Times used to be quite good at reporting UK coinage changes, until it went tabloid in both senses of the word.
