Shēngxiào Collection

Since 2014, the Royal Mint have issued lunar coins, each year honouring a different Chinese lunar animal.

Struck in 999 fineness and containing 1 troy ounce of silver, the 2017 Royal Mint Year of the Rooster coins are UK legal tender and are exempt from Capital Gains Tax. They appeal to both investors and coin collectors.

Year of the Rooster

The Year of the Rooster is the fourth animal in the Royal Mint's Shēngxiào Collection, and the tenth animal in the lunar cycle. Those born during the Year of the Rooster are said to be observant, confident, hardworking and honest.

Design

The Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of the coin.

Like the previous coins in the series, the reverse is designed by the British Chinese artist, Wuon-Gean Ho. The coin shows a rooster, surrounded by ten Marsh Daisies (sea-thrift), representing the tenth animal in the lunar cycle.  The number ten is also thought to symbolise perfection in Chinese culture. 

The reverse bears the Chinese Year of the Rooster symbol and the legend YEAR OF THE ROOSTER·2017 with 1 OZ FINE SILVER 999.

These coins are supplied to us in tubes of 25. If ordered in multiples of 25, we will send them in the tube at no extra cost. 

Mintage

The coins have a mintage figure of 138,888. In Chinese culture the number 8 is thought to be lucky.
