Featured is silver denarius of Antoninus Pius, the first of the Antonine Emperors, an age which, with the exception of the reign of Commodus, many modern historians describe as a 'golden age' in Rome's history. The Obverse features a portrait of the Emperor, and the Reverse a Phoenix rising from the ashes and the word 'Consecratio'. This tells us that this coin is a posthumous issue issued during the reign of Marcus Aurelius.
