Augustus 27 B.C. - 14 A.D.

Although Augustus was the first Roman Emperor, he tried to maintain the pretense that Rome was still a republic and kept outward displays of monarchism to a minimum. Although other coins did exist with Augustus' portrait, this particular coin follows the older Roman Republican tradition of portraying a Deity or Deities on the obverse, in this case Fortuna Felix and Fortuna Victrix, rather than a portrait of Augustus himself. This coin can be dated to 19 B.C. due to the monyer, Q Rustius being in office at that time.
