Austrian Thalers
The Thaler (the etymological origin of the word 'dollar') is so called because this large silver coin was first struck using silver from the mines near the Bohemian town of Joachimsthal, which would eventually become part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This type of Austrian Thaler (Similar to the Marie-Theresa Thaler) was struck for general circulation until 1857, when it was replaced by the Vereinsthaler of slightly lesser weight.
