Bangladesh
A predominantly Muslim nation, Bangladesh’s borders were formed when Bengal was divided into East and West Bengal. The predominantly Muslim eastern portion was renamed East Pakistan during the partition of India in 1947. East Pakistan subsequently broke away from West Pakistan in 1971 to become the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The economy is predominantly agricultural with Jute and Tea being the main exports.

Bangladeshi Coins
Bangladesh's first coinage was issued in 1973, coins were introduced in denominations of 5, 10, 25 and 50 poisha.1 poisha coins followed in 1974, with 1 taka coins introduced in 1975. There are 100 Poisha = 1 Taka. We tend to see very few Bangladeshi coins, although some such as the Silver Proof Crown in our photographs, are quite attractive.
