White Metal Medallion Struck to Publicise the Opening

Obverse
The obverse or main side shows the newly built Blackpool pier, now know as North Pier, from a viewpoint near the cliffs to the north of the pier. There are two sailing boats on the sea. The scene is enclosed within an attractive scroll border with a sea shell motif above.
The inscription reads:
BLACKPOOL PIER
1863

Reverse
The reverse side of the medallion carries the following information:
THE FIRST PILE WAS
SCREWED
JUNE 21ST 1862
OPENED
TO THE PUBLIC
MAY 21ST 1863
LENGTH 1350 FEET : BREADTH 21 FEET

This medallion is struck in white metal and is 31mm in diameter.
