A French Medallion With A Blackpool Connection
Blackpool Tower was copied from the more famous Eiffel Tower in Paris. The medallion we show on this page features the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It is struck in copper, and was presumably given away to visitors who paid to ascend to the summit of the tower as a souvenir, and as an advertising piece.

Obverse
The obverse (head side) shows the Eiffel Tower, and a number of all the well know Paris landmarks.
The inscription read:

ONT COMMENC&EACUTE;
LE 27 JANV 1897

LE MONUMENT
A &EACUTE;T&EACUTE; INAUGUR&EACUTE;
LE 6 MAI 1889

In the large exergue is a list of other Paris buildings and monuments with their heights in metres:-

Reverse
The reverse design consists of inscriptions in five lines, with a cartouche for engraving the recipient's name:

(Cartouche)

In smaller letters at the top is the word CUIVRE (Copper), and below is the makers name USINE METALLURGIQUE PARISIENNE
