Brief Historical Notes
The Weimar Republic was formed from the aftermath and chaos of Germany's defeat in World War I, when Parliamentarians convened the new National Assembly on 6th February 1919. With American aid, the German economy recovered only to stall again with the worldwide economic crash of 1929, leading to the rise of Hitler's influence culminating in the formation of the Third Reich in 1933.

Weimar Republic Coins
Coins of the Weimar Republic were denominated in marks and pfennigs from 1919 to 1923, rentmarks and rentenpfennigs from 1923 to 1924, and reichmarks and reichpfennigs from 1924 to 1933.

Funf (5) Reichsmark
There were two series of five mark coins, one a definitive series, issued from 1927 to 1933, with an oak tree on the reverse. The other series being commemoratives, perhaps with a propaganda purpose to encourage a feeling of German greatness, loyalty, public support and patriotism, factors which seemed to be absent during this period.
