By Driving & Parking on the Footpath

Here on Lytham Road in Blackpool, there are a number of vehicle drivers who have decided that the best way to improve road safety and help keep death off the roads, is to drive and park on the footpath.
It has become so prevalent recently, that the local council have quite correctly erected barriers and signs at each end of the block warning drivers not to do it. Of course it makes little or no difference. The drivers of these vehicles are ignorant selfish people who only care about their own convenience and are too lazy too park correctly and walk a little further. It is possible that their employers condone or encourage the practice by failing to give their drivers proper training and instruction, also by pressure on the drivers to complete their delivery rounds in rapid time.

Selfish & Dangerous
Apart from the danger to the public caused by vehicles parking and driving on a pedestrian area, the footpaths become damaged by the vehicles, and it increases the likelihood of pedestrians tripping on damaged paving. The property owners and the local council would then be liable for a legal claim for damages, and also for repairs to the paving.
Every year thousands of people, many elderly or partially sighted, trip and fall on damaged pavements, causing shock distress, injury and worse. Much of this damage is caused by vehicles being parked or driven on pavements and across kerbs. It is therefore a serious matter. In addition, every local council pays out large amounts of ratepayers money each year in compensation claims for injury victims. Private property owners also have a duty to maintain any paved areas which are part of their forecourts, and also need to insure against injury compensation claims.
Reports to the police have so far produced no noticeable results, so here in an effort to "name and shame" some of the drivers, we present our...
