Tetradrachm of the Roman Province of Macedonia 168 B.C. to c.146 B.C.

The Kingdom of Macedonia had a distinguished history as the kingdom that produced Alexander the Great, but by the second century B.C. It's power and influence had declined relative to that of Rome. Perseus, King of Macedon, was determined to return Macedonia to greatness, but after some initial success, was defeated and captured during the Third Macedonian War in 168 B.C. Following this defeat, the former kingdom was split into four nominally independent republics, but under the control of Rome. This Tetradrachm was minted in the early years of Roman rule in Macedonia
