Britannia Moneta Royal Mint Medallion
This medallion reminds us that The Royal Mint was operating from ancient times using manual methods of striking coins, and shows a view of the Royal Mint in London. Between 1811 and the late 1960's the Mint was located at a site in Royal Mint Street near Tower Hill. This was closed about 1969, after a new Royal Mint was built at Llantrisant in South Wales.

The obverse shows Britannia as Britannia Moneta seated striking coins at an anvil, in the ancient method of hand hammering.

The reverse of the medallion shows a view of the Royal Mint in London, as it was between 1811 and about 1969.
