The Genius of Michelangelo
Struck by John Pinches in hallmarked sterling silver, and issued around 1974.
This is a collection of 60 silver medallions. Each medal features a piece of art from the hand of Michelangelo, and each medallion is in itself a miniature masterpiece of the engraver's art in translating the original into a medallion.
Original works include many from the Sistine Chapel, the Last Judgment and other paintings and drawings, scultpures based on classical themes, scultpures of famous people, sculpures of Christ and the Madonna, mainly from Italy, but including one from the Notre Dame Church in Bruges Belgium.

The complete collection is housed in one album. The album itself is in less than perfect condition. The medallions themselves are in mint condition apart from the usual toning. Each medallion is accompanied by a certificate explaining the meaning behind the art work. Although we have some spare certificates, we currently do not have a full set available as we are missing one certificate.

Reverse Design
Each medallion reverse has an image inspired by Michelangelo's central design for Rome's Capitoline Piazza. The lettering around the coin is in the style of Michelangelo's own handwriting.

The name of the series and the numerical sequence of each medal are included as part of the hallmark on the rim.
