Prior to 1960 Nigerian coins inclided Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse of their coins. From 1960 onwards the NIgerian Coat of Arms is used.
The Naira, made up of 100 KOBOs was introduced in 1973 to replace ther sterling pound.
The reverse of the 2006 One Naira commemorates the life of Herbert Macaulay, a Nigerian nationalist.
