Philip the Arab 244 - 249 A.D.

Philip I (known as 'the Arab' due to his Syrian origins) presided over the millenial games celebrating the 1,000th anniversary of the founding of Rome. He was later killed in battle by Trajan Decius. It was claimed by Eusebius of Caesaria, writing during the Constantinian era that Philip was a convert to chritianity, although this is a highly dubious claim. He was however, unusually tolerant of Christians for his time, and Christian writers would have compared his reign very favourably to those of his murderer and successor Trajan Decius, who launched a series of brutal persecutions against christians.

The coin here is an antoninianus featuring Aequitas (Equity) a Goddess associated with fair dealing.
