The diameter and weight of this coin appear about right for a silver penny of this period, and the obverse legend indicates the second coinage, but the reverse legend was used on halfpennies of Alexander III, and not used on pennies until the following reign, that of John Balliol. This leads us to believe that, if our identification is correct, this coin may be a contemporary forgery. We will need to conduct further research.
