Illustrated is a pre-Civil War milled sixpence from Nicholas Briot's first milled issue, dated 1631-32.

Obverse:
Latin inscription reads "Charles by the Grace of God King of Great Britain and Ireland". 'VI' signifies denomination in pence.

Reverse:
Latin inscription reads "I reign under the auspices of Christ" and contains Royal Coat of Arms.
