Spam Kills - Fight Back, Shoot a Spammer Today
Terrorist acts fill the news with almost frightening regularity. It may appear at first sight a touch theatrical to class spam e-mailers in the same category as Al Queda members, but spare a few minutes to think about some statistics.
Research Needed
We have not yet researched or tried to make any accurate assessment of the underlying data, but we have a feeling that we would find...
- Millions of spam e-mails get sent every day. Spam e-mails waste time and other resources, deleting them, reading them, reporting them, and trying to avoid them.
- If the total human time wasted by spam e-mails could be totalled up, it would be the equivalent of killing several thousand people every year.
- Spam causes anger and frustration in those who have to deal with it. This is not healthy for the individuals concerned.
- Most spammers do not care about the effect their activities have on the innocent majority of their victims.
- Victims should fight back against spammers by any means possible.
- Suing spammers would be a good start, if they could be made to pay a penalty for their anti-social activities, it may help to curb them.
- Encourage your government to enact anti-spam legislation.
- We don't seriously suggest that spammers should be shot, but if it happened, we would be among the first to cheer.
- Perhaps when Al Queda members are caught, they could be harnessed in the fight against spam. This would kill two birds with one stone.
- If you think some of the concepts expressed here are rather radical, then please understand that my inbox receives between 200 and 400 spam e-mails daily, and the whole time I spend getting rid of them, I spend wishing nasty thoughts about them. Some of these thoughts involve Hannibal Lecter, disembowelling, introduction of capital punishment for spamming, and the effect all this is having on my blood pressure, health and sanity.
- How about some smart law firm setting up a service whereby they sue spammers on your behalf, and keep 50%, or maybe even 100% of the proceeds, on a no win no fee basis?
- We have noticed some spammers using our e-mail addresses as forged sender addresses. This is 10 times worse than receiving spam.
- One of the few things worse is receiving spam with yourself falsely shown as the sender!
