Trajan Decius
249 - 251

See our Roman Historical Notes For further information on this Emperor.

The featured coin is a billon (base silver alloy) tetradrachm minted in the second year of Decius' reign (251 A.D.) with the figure of Victory on the reverse. In spite of the theme of this coin's reverse. Decius did not enjoy much success in military affairs. The year this coin was minted, Decius achieved the dubious distinction of being the first Roman Emperor to be killed in Battle against a foreign enemy.
