Tristan da Cunha
Named after Tristao da Cunha who discovered the island in 1506, it has only been inhabited since 1810. The island is a volcano which erupted in 1961, all the entire population of about 300 islanders were evacuated, and almost all returned between 1962 and 1963.

Tristan da Cunha Coins
On August 5th 1867 HRH Prince Alfred the Duke of Edinburgh visited the island, and its only village was named Edinburgh in his honour, making it fitting that the coin shown mentions Prince Philip the present Duke of Edinburgh, and celebrated the 40th anniversary of his marriage to H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth II.
