Vespasian Denarius

Vespasian came to power following a year of turmoil when Nero was forced to commit suicide in 68 A.D. He was responsible for crushing the first Jewish Revolt of 66 - 70 A.D. and commissioned the building of the famous Colliseum in Rome. Two of his sons, Titus and Domitian, succeeded him following his death in 79.

The featured coin features a portrait of Vespasian with retrograde legend, whilst the reverse the letters 'SPQR' in a laurel wreath (although the first and last letters are almost worn away). Minted in 73 A.D.
