We Buy Medals & Medallions
We make an active market in medals and medallions, whether individually, or in complete sets and collections. Buying and selling prices vary with the market price of silver (or gold where appropriate).
The secondary (secondhand) market prices for silver medallions is usually quite competitively priced, and for connoisseurs of medallic or numismatic art, previously owned medallion sets often represent a bargain especially compared with the original new prices.
Please contact us if you have medals or medallions for sale.
Jewellers & Bullion Dealers
Some people try selling medallion collections via jewellers or bullion dealers. Prices obtained are usually based on the jeweller melting the, for scrap silver or gold, and prices obtained are often quite low. Our buying prices are usually much more competitive, even though for many modern issues of artistic medallions, our prices are closely based on the underlying metal content, but because we normally resell the collections or medallions to other collectors, we tend to be able to pay more than scrap value.
Auctions Including eBay
We quite often see medallion collections being sold by auction. Most traditional auction houses now charge both sellers commissions, and buyers premiums, which usually means the difference between the price paid by the buyer and that obtained by the vendor is about 40%. We are quite happy to work on approximately half the profit margin charged by auction houses. In addition, we pay out immediately, and do not keep you waiting for payment until the buyer has settled.
Internet auction sites have become very popular, but many buyers are very suspicious about unknown vendors, and to obtain a good price, you would need to invest time and effort (money as well), and the results can be very variable.
If you decide to sell your items via eBay or other online auction site, please do not be tempted to "borrow" our images of other site content, we regard all our photographs and other site content as copyright, we have often invested a considerable amount of our own time, effort, and expertise to produce our web pages.
EBay fees are like stealth taxes, every single feature gets charged for, and the total cost, even if your item fails to sell, is often higher than most people expect. There can also be problems getting paid, and with feedback, and disputes.
What To Do Next
If you would like to send your coins to us, we will happily make you an offer. We would ask you to send it to us, along with all the information you have and a covering letter explaining how much you would like to get for the piece(s) and a cheque for £10. Please ensure you include your contact details, especially your telephone number as we find it a lot quicker and easier to telephone you with an offer rather than spend time writing to you! If you accept our offer we will return your £10 cheque along with a cheque for your coins. If you decline our offer we will use the £10 cheque to cover our costs and the cost of insured return postage.
