Most of coins of Charles I were hammer-struck, but prior to the Civil War, Frenchman Nicholas Briot was employed to strike milled issues between 1631-1639. The sheer variety of the coins of Charles I means that collecting the coins of Charles I would make for an extensive collection in its own right, even if one was to limit it to a particular denomination, such as the half-crown.
