Anne Halfcrowns
Queen Anne Halfcrowns were minted between 1703 and 1714. Reverse designs consisted of three types, Plain shields, Plumes, and Roses/Plumes. Some of the 1703 Halfcrowns carry the word 'VIGO' below the bust, in reference to the source of the silver, which was captured from the Spanish during the Battle of Vigo Bay in 1702. Some post-Union Halfcrowns carry an 'E' below the bust, in reference to the fact that they were struck at the Edinburgh Mint before it was closed in 1709.

Edge
The edge of both types is inscribed in raised lettering:
Regnal year in Latin.
