Victoria Young Head Coinage
There were three main obverse types of Queen Victoria plus the gothic type used only on the crowns and florins. The first of these is now generally known as the "Young Head". It was used with slight modifications from the first of Victoria's coins in 1838 until 1887, and even as late as 1895 on some bronze coins.
The earlier young head design featured higher relief and fine workmanship, and was used on halfcrowns until 1853. From 1874 until 1887, the relief was lower and the workmanship was not quite as fine.

Obverse:

The obverse inscription reads:
VICTORIA DEI GRATIA
1883

Reverse:
A crowned quartered shield within a wreath.
The reverse legend reads:
BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID DEF

Edge
The edge is milled.
