Birkenhead Photographic Association Medallion
This white metal medallion has been produced to an excellent standard.
It is struck in white metal and weighs xx grams. As a prize medal for a small specialised society, it would only have been issued in quite small quantities. Like many such medals, it had a space for engraving the name and date of prize-winners. We wonder what W Davies, named as the winner of the annual outdoor competition, would have thought about his medallion being shown on the internet today, having been photographed with a digital camera. Presumably he, along with other members of the association, would have been fascinated and astounded by digital photography, and proud that this medallion has survived as a historical document.

Obverse
Coat of arms of Birkenhead, in sharp relief and detail, with the inscription:-
BIRKENHEAD PHOTOGRAPHIC ASSOCIATION
and on the scroll beneath the shield:-
UBI FIDES IBI LUX ET ROBUR
This presumably is the Latin motto of the association, which means Where there is faith there is light and strength". Thanks to David Gault BSc, who is presumably a Tranmere Rovers supporter, or is familiar with the motto of Birkenhead Corporation.

Reverse
Above a represention of the sun and its rays, below a ribbon entwined in a wreath, with the inscription:-
PRIZE MEDAL

The central space has been left clear for inscriptions of individual winners, such as that shown on our example:-
ANNUAL OUTDOOR COMPETITION
W. DAVIES
1893

Specifications
Diameter XX mms.
Weight XXX grams.
