Four Types - Three Designs
There are four types of George V halfcrowns. The first two types have the first type portrait, and a shield in garter on their reverse. These span the period from 1911 to 1919 inclusive, however an identical design was issue from 1920 to 1926 inclusive. The only significant difference being the silver content. The third type was a short lived issue exsiting from 1926 to 1927 inclusive, which has a slightly modified effigy, showing the engravers initials further back and with more pronounced beading. The fourth type was issue from 1927 to 1936 inclusive, featuring a modified shield design.
Obverse:
Bare head of King George V, facing left.
The obverse inscription reads:
GEORGIUS V DEI GRA BRITT OMN REX
Reverse:
A crowned quartered shield within a garter bearing the inscription "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE".
The reverse legend reads:
FID DEF IND IMP HALF CROWN
