1929 Florin Obverse
1929 Florin Reverse
George V First Type Design
With the ascension of George V to the throne in 1910, engravers at the Royal Mint changed the design on the reverse of many of the coins. As far as the florin is concerned, the image of Britannia standing on the prow of a ship was abandoned in favour of the crowned cruciform shields, with sceptres at angles, as depicted here. The design was modified several times during George V's reign, the most major modification came in 1920, when the silver content was debased from 0.925 fine, to 0.500 fine. Although the most noticable cosmetic change came in 1927, when the reverse was modified to depict the shields at angles, rather than the sceptres.

Obverse:
First Portrait of George V, letters 'BM' on the truncation.
The obverse inscription reads:
GEORGIUS V DEI GRA BRITT OMN REX F D IND IMP

Reverse:

The reverse legend reads:
FID DEF IND IMP 1921 ONE FLORIN
