George V - Second Coinage The coin photographed of the second coinage, of debased silver, 500 parts per 1000. Apart from the different alloy, both obverse and reverse designs are usually described as similar to the first coinage types. The relief however is usually lower than for the first coinage. This may be partly because the alloy is slightly harder.
Some discolouration or tarnishing can be seen on our coin. This is fairly common with lower silver content alloys. The 1925 is one of two key dates in the George V series of Half Crowns (the other being 1930). This particular specimen is even rarer in the higher grades.

Obverse:
Bare head of King George V, facing left.
The obverse inscription reads:
GEORGIUS V DEI GRA BRITT OMN REX

Reverse:
A crowned quartered shield within a garter bearing the inscription "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE".
The reverse legend reads:
FID DEF IND IMP HALF CROWN
1925

Edge:
The edge is milled.
