1948 Olympic Gold Medal
An Olympic Gold medal issued for the 1948 Winter Olympic Games held at St. Moritz, Switzerland.

We believe this is an official gold medal, but are in process of trying to verify this.

A naked male athlete kneeling to the right on his right knee, holding the flaming Olympic torch in his left hand, with the legend:
CITIVS ALTIVS FORTIVS (or CITIUS ALTIUS FORTIUS) as the U and V can be interchanged in Latin.
In the exergue is the engravers name EMIL WIEDERKEHR

The reverse features the five Olympic rings across the middle, with a sprig of laurel behind it, and a B (Bern) mintmark below. The legend reads:

Gold (22 ct.)33.1027.05520.7974

We contacted the Swiss Mint to gain certain information regarding this medallion and were very pleased to receive a reply within 24 hours!
