Gold Medallion of Sir Winston Spencer Churchill
In 1965 a number of medallists produced medals or medallions of Sir Winston Churchill, in gold, silver or bronze.
The medal we feature on this page is by John Pinches of London, one of the best known of "modern" medallists, before they were taken over by Franklin Mint. It is a magnificent large medal with a facing portrait of Churchill in high relief. Most coins and medals make use of profile portraiture, as "facing" portraits are difficult to execute successfully. It is beautifully engraved, with a charming rendition of Sir Winston looking elegant in a polka dotted bow tie, and was part of a limited edition of 500 pieces.
The reverse features Churchill's coat of arms as the Duke of Marlborough. There are two insscriptions, one the family motto:-
FIEL PERO DESDICHADO
Which is Spanish meaning "Faithful but disinherited", and also the motto of the Order of the Garter:-
HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

Description
The certificate which accompanies the medallion states:-

1874 - 1965

We hereby certify that this medal, 2" in diameter, struck in 22ct. hall marked fold (3.40 oz.) is number 30 of an issue of 500 only.

We Buy Medals & Medallions
We make an active market in medals and medallions, whether individually, or in complete sets and collections. Buying and selling prices vary with the market price of silver (or gold where appropriate).
The secondary (secondhand) market prices for silver medallions is usually quite competitively priced, and for connoisseurs of medallic or numismatic art, previously owned medallion sets often represent a bargain especially compared with the original new prices.
Please contact us if you have medals or medallions for sale.
