1966 Desert War 25th Anniversary, 1940 - 1965, Field Marshal Montgomery Gold Medallion
This set of three gold medals or medallions was issued in 1966 by Metalimport Ltd, coined and weights guaranteed by Johnson Matthey & Co. Limited of London, honouring Field Marshal Montgomery.

Description
Each medal features a portrait of Field Marshal Montgomery, with his portrait facing left. The reverse of each medallion is identical, and shows a tank in the desert and features the inscription:
SIDI OMAR
EL ALAMEIN
TOBRUK
EL ACHEILA
The inner lid of the box is signed "Metalimport Limited".

Edge
The edge is plain, apart from a serial number.

Specifications
At the time of writing we had five Metalimport sets in stock, three Battle of Britain sets, a 1963 Kennedy Gold Medallion Set, and some 1966 Desert War Sets, that are apparently all the same weight. As the certificates are so ambiguous, stating the overall weight in troy ounces and the alloy as 18ct but no actual gold weights, we decided to check the weights ourselves - every single set was different - and none of them matched the certificates!
We have stated the lowest and highest weights in the table along with the mean average which we will use to buy and sell these sets.

Weights of individual medallions may vary slightly.

Buying & Selling
Buyers and sellers alike may be interested to note that gold medallions like these often trade at prices close to their intrinsic metal value. While this may not be what sellers wish to hear, it should delight potential buyers.
At the time of creating this page, we had a one of these medallions in stock, and would be happy to sell it for a modest premium over their intrinsic gold content, however as with many pages of our website, this page has a dual purpose, to sell our stock, and to provide information. If you have a similar medallion, which you would like to sell, we would be pleased to hear from you.
