1966 700th Anniversary of Parliament Gold Stamp Replica
In 1966, a pair of stamp replicas were issued to commemorate the 700th Anniversary of Parliament.
There was also an issue of two commemorative stamps. These had denominational values of six (6) pence, and 2/6 (half crown).
A number of gold medallic replicas were issued by Metalimport. These would have required copyright permission from the Post Office to reproduce the designs. The medallions were struck by Johnson Matthey of London.

Gold medallions replicating stamps released in 1965 to celebrate the 700th Anniversary of the founding of Parliament by Simon de Montfort in 1265, Simon de Montfort was killed later that year by the Royalist army at the Battle of Lewes, but the precedent he set by calling a Parliament to consult with endured, and the Crown was increasingly compelled to take notice of the wishes of Parliament down the centuries, until by the 17th century, it was Parliament and not the King which ruled the country.

Description
Obverse
Depicted on the obverse of the smaller medallion is the Queen's portrait with the seal of Simon de Montfort, on the larger medallion is a landscape image of the Palace of Wesminster as it would have appeared in the 13th century. The inscription being 700th ANNIVERSARY OF PARLIAMENT and the stamp's value, respectively 6d (six pence) and 2/6 (half crown).

Reverse
The reverse of each medallion is inscribed with the following description:
REPLICA IN 18 CARAT GOLD
OF THE STAMP COMMEMORATING
THE 600TH ANNIVERSARY
OF PARLIAMENT, LONDON

Followed by a full British hallmark from the London Assay Office, showing it to be 18ct gold.

Presentation
The medallic replicas were normally issued in pairs, complete with a purplish blue fabric covered box, with red velvet and satin lining.
