1491 - 1991 500th Anniversary of the Birth of Henry VIII Silver Medallion by the Royal Mint

The Royal Mint issued a silver medallion in 1999 in order to commemorate 500 years since the birth of King Henry VIII.

Henry VIII

Henry was born on 28th June, 1491. After his father died, in 1509, Henry took over the throne. During his 24 year reign, he famously had six wives.

He died in 1547, at the age of 55.

Obverse

The obverse shows a portrait of Henry. The text reads - HENRY VIII. 500TH ANNIVERSARY OF BIRTH. 28TH JUNE 1491.

Reverse
The reverse is a shield bearing various heraldic devices, presumably symbolising the Royal Mint, with the legend:- ROYAL MINT
