In 1991 a one ounce silver medallion was issued to commemorate Operation Desert Storm. The medallion was designed and minted by the Northwest Territorial Mint in Auburn, Washington, USA.

Desert Storm

'Desert Storm' was the code-name given to the Gulf War. It was fought against Iraq by a U.S.-led coalition, following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. It took place from 2nd August, 1990 until 28th, February 1991. Countries in the coalition included the United Kingdom, France and Canada.

Design

The medallion was designed by Steven R. Lundberg who was the Chief Designer as Northwest Territorial Mint. It has a proof finish.

It shows an eagle holding a shield protected by two olive branches on the obverse. This represents 'peace'. The olive branches are tipped with arrows to show the force necessary to accomplish freedom.

The reverse shows the United Nations symbol, with the text "ARMY - NAVY - AIR FORCE - MARINES", which are the four armed forces of the United States.

Presentation

The medallion comes in a presentation box. Please note the box is slightly tacky and some of the black has come off.
