1996 Silver Proof Coin Set
1996 saw the 25th anniversary of decimalisation in the United Kingdom. To celebrate this fact, and also to flog a few coin sets, the British Royal Mint produced a special 1996 silver coin set, with all seven of the normal circulating British coins, from one pound to one penny.
This is the first British proof coin set issued in sterling silver since 1911. Those issued in 1935 and 1937 were only 50% silver, and subsequent issues were in base metals, apart from the gold coins.

Strangely enough, the silver proof sets do not include two of the coins available as silver proofs, but as these two coins are available individually, it is possible to acquire a complete set.:
