Commonwealth Games 2002 Two Pounds Coin
Since 1986. the Royal Mint has issued two pound coins, both for circulation and as commemorative versions for collectors.
In 2002, as the latest in this series of £2 coins, the Royal Mint is producing a series of designs commemorating the 17th Commonwealth Games held in Manchester.
This is particularly suitable as the first of the modern £2 coins issued in 1986 also honoured the Commonwealth Games of that year held in Edinburgh.

Variations on a Design Theme
There are four different designs, all similar except that the central cameo features in turn the flags of, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
As usual, this coin will be available in a number of different versions, some of which we have available from stock as from early January 2002:-

Obverse
The Fourth Portrait

2002 Coins

If you want to find the value of a coin you own, please take a look at our page I've Found An Old Coin, What's It Worth?

Please, if you are going to ask us whether the £2 coin you own is worth more than £2, please, please, please read our other pages about them first, and even then the answer is almost certainly no. About 1,000 people every week read one or more of our pages about £2 coins. Hopefully most manage to find what they wanted. A tiny percentage, but still about 20 per week ask us whether a £2 they have found in change / in a drawer / been given is worth more than £2. The answer to 99% of these questions is already on our site. We do not have the time or patience to answer such questions individually.
