Australian Crocodile Silver Bullion Coins

We now have the 2014 Australian Saltwater Crocodile 1oz Silver Coins available to order.

Brand New Coin

Following on from the successful kookaburra, koala and lunar coins, the Perth Mint released a brand new 1oz silver bullion coin - the crocodile - in 2014. This was the first coin in a planned new series from the Perth Mint.

Update 23rd May, 2014

Whilst it was orginally reported that the Perth Mint had finalised their designs for the next 2 years, we have now heard that the design will infact remain the same. This ends speculation as to whether there would be a different crocodile or even a different animal next year.

The coins were officially released on the 12th May, 2014, and we received our first order on Friday 16th May.

Discontinued

The Perth Mint stopped minting the coins in 2015. They were instead replaced with the new kangaroo series.

Australian Crocodile

The coin features the Australian Saltwater Crocodile, which is the largest reptile in the world (in terms of body mass). The Saltwater Crocodile can be found in northern Australia, Southeast Asia and the east coast of India. They can weigh over 1,000 kilograms and some males can reach up to 7 metres in length, whilst females generally reach 4 metres. They not only inhabit saltwater, but also fresh, brackish and saline water in ponds, swamps, lakes, creeks, streams, rivers, billabongs and the ocean.

The crocodile propels itself through water at a surprising speed, making it a formidable and dangerous animal. It is an opportunistic predator and kills almost any animal that enters its territory. They are the most dangerous species of crocodiles to humans, due to their size.

Design

The reverse features a large Saltwater Crocodile displaying its sharp teeth. The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark can be found underneath the crocodile.

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Packaging

Unlike other bullion Perth Mint coins, the crocodiles do not come in capsules. Our price reflects this, making them our cheapest Australian 1oz Silver coins.

They are supplied to us in protective tubes, and unless ordered in multiples of 25, will not be sent in them. If you do order 25 coins, we will send them in tubes.

The problem we have found when packaging the tubes, is that there is a gap at the top, meaning the coins rattle around inside. We don't like sending items through the post like this, so we open the tubes in order to secure the coins and stop the rattling. We have spoken to the Perth Mint about the problem with the tubes and we will update this page when we have more information.

If you do not want us to open the tubes and would like them still sealed with the Perth Mint’s tamper evident security seal, then please phone us when placing your order.

If you purchase in quantites of 500 then we can provide the coins in a sealed 'monster' box.
